SSI for January 2028 is paid on Friday, December 31, 2027, because January 1 falls on a Saturday. Every 2027 payment includes the 3.6% COLA, starting with the SSI payment on December 31, 2026.
Who is paid on the 3rd
You're paid on the 3rd of each month instead of a Wednesday if you started getting benefits before May 1997, or if you get both Social Security and SSI. If the 3rd falls on a weekend or a holiday, the payment comes on the business day before. In 2027 that happens four times: January's payment comes on December 31, 2026 (January 3 is a Sunday and January 1 a holiday), April's on April 2, July's on July 2, and October's on October 1.
Spouses and family members
If you get benefits on someone else's record, such as a spouse's, your payment day follows that person's birthday, not yours.

Wait three business days, then contact Social Security. Payment dates can also be checked in your my Social Security account.
How we worked out these dates
We applied Social Security's published rules to the 2027 calendar: Wednesday dates by birthday, SSI on the 1st, and payments due on a weekend or federal bank holiday moved to the business day before. Social Security also publishes its own 2027 calendar. If anything differs, its calendar wins.
